Meeting season is upon us and by now most of you are having coaches, safety, and team meetings. Take this opportunity to drive home the fact that under no circumstances is ammunition or firearms allowed on school grounds!! We generally invite the Activities Director to our team meeting to explain to the family’s first hand that the school has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to ammo and guns on school property. Familiarize yourself with the school’s weapons policy and make it clear to your athletes that they are responsible for the consequences.
I always like to stress that all it takes is one incident to put your program in jeopardy…………don’t be that individual! This includes making sure that parents are checking their vehicles as they drop off and pick up their kids from school. Our school officials have made it clear that any ammo found in a students vehicle will be punishable by suspension of that student. I recommend reminding them as much as possible in the early stages.
